What state help can be obtained?
According to the Agreement on the exit from the EU citizens and non-citizens of Latvia, who lived and worked in the UK until December 31, 2020 and continue to live and work in the country after January 1, 2021, will be able to further receive and request benefits provided in the UK in accordance with Regulatory №883 / 2004. In particular, these are family benefits for families with children.After the cessation of labor relations in the UK and when returning to Latvia, residents will be able to request the export of unemployment benefits provided in the UK for a period of job search.
ATTENTION! The rights to state assistance for EU and Great Britain citizens, who, after January 1, 2021, will move from the EU to the UK and, on the contrary, are formulated in the Protocol on Trade and Cooperation Treaty.
1 does not provide export of unemployment benefits. Therefore, the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA) will no longer submit a document U2 to citizens and non-citizens of the Republic of Latvia, which will be given to the unemployment allowance in Latvia, and which will go to the UK in search of work after January 1, 2021.
2 The Protocol does not provide for payments for family benefits and long-term care benefits (in Latvia this is a disability allowance for a person in need of care). Thus, for EU citizens who arrived in the UK after January 1, 2021, the right to these benefits will be determined in accordance with the national legal acts of the UK.
This means that those who will move to the UK after January 1, 2021 will be able to get the right to family benefits only after a certain period of stay in the UK.
