Initially, the version of the film about hunger
According to the general producer of the film Vitaly Gaidi, the scenario about hunger was the first idea for filing a competition to the National Center for Cinematography. True, due to the lack of experience in the filming of artistic cinema, they decided to file a script for a short film, on another topic.
The script of the film was written by Gagauz poet and writer Fyodor will roll
The image of the main character of the film is a grandmother who lives with her son and his daughter-in-law is taken from real life. Fedor will rise, while working on writing a scenario as the basis of the image of the heroine took his mother. At the same time, the film scenario was finalized by the producer group and director, while maintaining the initial idea.
About searching for the role of the main heroine
The film executives for six months were looking for a suitable actress in Gagauzia. Needed the one who is similar to the image described in the script. The main role was practically approved by the director of the museum in the village of Beshalma Lyudmila Marin, but the producer group learned about 85-year-old Maria Stanovaya from the village of Beshgiz, which went to the main role. She is not a professional actress and played a role in the film for the first time. Despite this, during the shooting process, the grandmother quickly understood what they want from it and easily born into the role. Another role is the daughter-in-law, played actress Comrat Municipal Theater Marina Manjul.
Where were the shooting?
According to the script, the action took place in a rural house, where there is a household, with a stove in the room at the grandmother. When searching for location, the film crew first stopped at the foundation of Peter Petkovich in Jaltai. It was planned to add more scenery, but during the preparation they decided to shoot in the house of Mary Stanovaya, where next to the big house was an old extension - "Summer Kitchen". Most of the filming took place there.

More than ten people took part in creating the film. For all of them - work on the film "Mamu", became the debut. The director of the film was the actor of the Gagauz National Theater Mikhail Rezunan.
The first Gagauz film, who received support from the authorities of Moldova
The film's budget amounted to a little more than 250 thousand lei. Of these, half allocated the National Center of Cinematography, and the second half of the producer house Media Birlii - Uniunia Media. For the first time, the Gagauz film received support from the budget of Moldova. 34 projects participated in the filming competition, and they chose 11. Among them and the Gagauz film "Mamu".

Mamu became the winner of the International Adami Media Prize contest, in the nomination of cultural and entertainment programs and films.
The main language of the film is Gagauz. At the same time, there are three versions of the film with subtitles in Romanian, English and French.
Under the conditions of the Adami Media Prize contest until March 31, 2021, the film will be shown in five countries: Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Also, the film entered the official program of a number of international film festivals.
