One of the most popular sports on the ancient Olympics was racing chariots. Two-wheeled crews, harvested by horses, rushed on the hippodrome of oval shape. At the beginning of the 1900s, there were almost forgotten about chariot races, but everything changed when some crazy guys replaced horses with motorcycles, fastening them to chariots.
It all started in the late 1920s, after the debut of a silent film "Ben-Gur: Christ's story." The film was presented a rather epic race for chariots, which inspired Australian guys to the reincarnation of a thousand years of sport.
The video that you will see was removed during the police carnival in the new South Wales in 1936 at the Sydney Auto Show in Australia. Two police officers actually recreated the scene from the film "Ben-Gour: The History of Christ." This is one of the few famous films demonstrating this sport in the first days of its existence.
Throughout the 20s and 30s, this type of racing was becoming more popular, breaking through to Europe and even America. Chariots consisted of two motorcycles cooked together in such a way that all four wheels remain on Earth. Participants should have dressed in classic roman costumes and managed motorcycles with reins. Usually these were ropes tied to the steering wheel, throttle and grip.
