Next week, February 11, a meeting of the Commission of Formula 1 will be held on which key decisions regarding the future championship will be adopted. According to AUTO Motor und Sport, a moratorium on the improvement of engines from 2022 will be introduced and the transition to new power plants in 2025 will be announced.
As a result, Red Bull Racing will be able to realize their plans and independently use Honda engines after the company's departure from the championship. However, it turns out that negotiations on the transfer of intellectual property team of motorists were not so smooth as they could. Allegedly before Honda reached rumors that Audi plans to become a supplier of engines in 2025, and the Honda leadership wanted to obtain warranties that in case of cooperation with Red Bull Racing, the German company will not have access to Japanese developments and documentation.
After the Commission of Formula 1 approves the "freezing" of the engines, starting from 2022, all power plant manufacturers will have to use Versions version 2021, refined to use the E10 fuel.
This remains the question of how to level the power of the engines of different manufacturers. It is expected that the rules will be registered, according to which the difference in the power of motors should not exceed two percent, which is about 20 hp. In case the difference is more, then two options are offered to eliminate it, each of which has yet to be discussed.
According to the first version, the lagging motorists will get the opportunity to finalize the power settings to a common level, but if the Honda engine will still give up to rivals, this option does not fit Red Bull, because there are no relevant specialists in the team. The second option is simpler - allow the label to spend more fuel, but this is contrary to the concept of formula 1 aimed at care about ecology.
Whatever two options have been adopted, the executive director of Formula 1 Stefano Domenicali supports the "freezing" of motors: "I hope everyone understands that this is the right step not only for Red Bull, but also for the whole formula 1."
