McLaren declares that her new hybrid on the V6 base will offer "amazing" characteristics as a replacement of the sports series.
McLaren confirmed that his fifth Serial Hybrid Artura would be presented at the "impressive stand" on Wednesday, February 17. The new car, which she called "High-Performance Hybrid" (HPH), will be a replacement for the long-released Sports Series line. Assigning a new model of the verbal name separates it from the system used for the Sports Series line, in which the numeric nomenclature belonging to the output power.
McLaren previously used names only for certain Ultimate Series models, including Senna and ELVA, which were associated with its motor asseference. The coming machine that the company describes as a supercar "next generation" will be equipped with a hybrid power plant based on the new V6 gasoline engine. Prior to this, McLaren installed hybrid power units only on models as P1 and Speedtail.
"Each Artura element is completely new - from the platform architecture and each part of a high-performance hybrid power plant to an external case, interior and an advanced driver interface. But it is based on the long-term experience of McLaren in the development of technology of ultra-light racing and road vehicles to transfer our entire experience in the field of electrification to the supercar class, "said the head of McLaren Mike Fluitt.
Although the technical details are not yet disclosed, McLaren argues that it "retains the advantages of McLaren V8 engines of greater power and has additional attractiveness in the form of an improved torque response on low engine speeds to ensure a brilliant acceleration." It will also offer "medium" electric mileage, which is about 30 km. In addition, the V6-based hybrid system will have two electric motors on the rear axle.
Artura will be built on the new McLaren Carbon LightWeight Architecture platform (MCLA), which, according to the manufacturer, is optimized for the hybrid power plant. He added that the new architecture raises the light chassis technology "to a new level", which will be a key factor in McLaren's intention to minimize additional weight caused by heavy batteries necessary for an electrified system.
Fluitte described Artura as "New McLaren kind for a new era, an unusual car for the driver, which offers incredible characteristics, as well as an electric reserve of a move capable of covering most urban trips." The HPH supercar is designed as an intermediate option between the newly released GT and Super Series 720s. McLaren confirmed that the Sports Series designation introduced for 570s in 2015 will not be used by the new Hybrid Artura, which makes the 620r-limited model in the Sports Series lineup.
