According to the Russian Gazette, the Government Commission on Legal Activity considered a draft amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. It is reported that it was proposed to strengthen the punishment for drivers who regularly sit behind the wheel drunk. It is known that those car owners who were "caught drunk" more than two times, coordinate stricter.

If a citizen who has a conviction for managing a car in a state of intoxication, will again be detained for drunk driving, they will apply increased sanctions to it. According to Gruzdeva, in the given moment in the Russian Federation there is a two-stage punishment system for drunk drivers. He clarified that the first time a person is punished under the article of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses, for the second time for such a violation comes criminal liability, and the maximum sanction is under two years of imprisonment.

It is noted that every fifth of those convicted for drunk drunk makes this crime again, that is, violates the article by the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation 264.1 ("Violation of the rules of the road to the person exposed to administrative punishment").

In 2020, the proportion of persons who made repeated violations under Article 264.1 was 20 percent, in 2019 - 15 percent, and in 2018, from the convicts, only every tenth village behind the wheel drunk, being ever tried for such a crime.
