CSTO Secretary General: "NATO creates dangerous prerequisites for a new arms race"

NATO policy in Eastern Europe and the prospects for his interaction with the CSTO appreciated the Secretary General of the organization Stanislav Raz. He spoke about this during a briefing for the media on February 2. The Secretary General also commented on the extension of American anti-missile arms in the region.

NATO's course is confrontational and causes serious concerns, said the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav in the course of the briefing on Tuesday. The key threat, in his opinion, is the activity of the Alliance in Eastern Europe.

"NATO confrontational course creates dangerous prerequisites for a new arms race. An American missile defense segment is enhanced. Despite the pandemic, the intensity of NATO military exercises does not decrease, "the Secretary General noted.

At the same time, the North Atlantic Alliance "does not recognize the counterproductiveness of the chosen course," underline in the CSTO. "We do not see any constructive initiatives or reactions to our proposals for de ease of mutual trust and cooperation," said. He added that in such conditions the participants of the organization are forced to "take into account the situation in the context of the development of the CSTO and take adequate measures."

At the same time, as the Secretary General stated in response to the question of the correspondent of Eurasia.Expert, although the organization does not see the readiness to contact NATO, the CSTO is open to interaction. "We are ready for such cooperation and consider it very important. It is impossible to ensure the safety of the continent, working on themselves. Our common points of contact - opposition to terrorism, extremism and a number of other operations, "stressed.

We will remind, earlier, the heads of defense departments of the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO jointly made the restoration of confidence and the warning of the arms race in the world by dialogue. In addition, at the final Summit of 2020, the CSTO participants adopted a statement on the formation of a fair and sustainable world order, which proposed to organize an appointment of authorized representatives of the CSTO, CIS, SCO, OSCE, NATO and the EU to discuss the security strategies adopted in these organizations as a first step to the formation of indivisible safety space.
