According to Reuters, about such ambitious plans Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Ibn Salman Al Saud told the public personally. The city of the future will deprive streets and machines - all the necessary places in his neighborhoods should be in step bypass. And if the inhabitants need to get somewhere, they will be able to do it with a high-speed underground highway.

And there is even some choice of transport: either a train or a certain Hyperloop version or highway for unmanned cars. The entire infrastructure of the city is hidden underground and forms a kind of "ridge". As can be seen in the scheme, the lowest floor is occupied by transport arteries (passenger and cargo) together with communications, sewage and water supply. And slightly higher, under the surface itself, the service floor is located - the base, where, obviously, warehouses, unloading zones and all the necessary citys are built.

The cornerstone of the ideas of The Line - ecology. The required energy megalopolis will receive from renewable sources, which will make it the first carbon-positive (Carbon Positive) city in the world. This ideology of urban planning implies that the infrastructure absorbs more carbon dioxide than it was spent to ensure it. This approach is implemented by refusing to burn hydrocarbons and maximum landscaping.

Residential and workstations in this design are on the surface. They are integrated into the natural nature and form urban modules, as if beads, strung on the thread. The Line's overall length will be about 170 kilometers. Construction will begin in the next six months and will require about 200 billion dollars investment. The project implementation periods are quite compressed: the metropolis must begin by 2025, and the full completion of the work is expected for 10 years.

The project budget is formed from several sources. The main investor is the Sovereign Fund of Saudi Arabia (Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia), are also planning to attract funds from local and international companies that are interested in participating. According to the plan, the investments will pay off in full: according to the calculations, The Line will create 380 thousand jobs and will add 48 billion dollars to the country's GDP.

Megapolis-line The Line originated not from scratch. This megaproject is part of the complex "Neom" (NEOM), which is created in the north of Saudi Arabia. The government of the country allocated about 500 billion dollars on the formation of a high-tech region by 2030. The purpose of this new tourist and economic center of attraction is to allow the economy of the Arab Kingdom to reduce its dependence on oil exports.

The main idea of the whole project is to make Saudi Arabia model for other countries in various aspects of progress. And since the existing cities and agglomerations with great difficulty adapt to the requirements of even the closest future, it is better to build everything from scratch.
