The critical political situation of the beginning of the 90s most acutely struck in the enterprises of the defense and industrial complex, among which the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant was. At that time, its main products were armored personnel carriers of the BTR-80, the demand for which dropped sharply. To somehow survive, I had to risk and try to enter new markets for myself.
So gas-3934 Siam appeared (a special collection of a car), developed by the joint efforts of the Gorky Automobile Plant and the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant. The car with an unusual appearance was created, first of all, for the transport of valuable goods on off-road. In fact, it is a heavy off-road collector van.
For four years, the company created about 70 units of collector vehicles, and single specimens reached this day. One of them was found in the Moscow region and fell to the restoration in the workshop of KB Smirnov.
On the task of the Customer, the armored vehicle should have been brought into the collective state and have a complete set of a series-mounted machine-gun installed from an armored personnel carrier released in a limited number of a series. To do this, I had to find demilitarized elements and combat branch sites.
Old paint from the body was removed using sandblasting and painted re-using modern technologies. All armored moles were replaced and all elements of the power supply were restored, and the wiring and lighting became new domestic production.
The GAZ-3934 Siam had a rather curious suspension design with elements borrowed from the armored personnel carrier BTR-80. She is here, by the way, completely independent. A system of centralized tire swap allowed maintaining pressure inside the tire even with three bullets.
The cabin had air conditioning, heater, communication systems and navigation system. In KB Smirnova, the interior, by the way, also updated, using original materials. Specific innovative development is doors with high secrecy locks with automotive contact.
