January 20 marks 101 from the birth of the great Italian director Federico Fellini. We collected 5 of his best films and tried to figure out what is so good his style.

"Sweet Life" (1959)
Thanks to this film, the whole world recognized the expression "Dolce Vita" ("Sweet Life" in Italian), and Fellini wasged the Vatican. For those standards, it was a scandalous picture showing the idle life of Bohemia without a goal and in hedonistic pleasures, and at the same time fatigue from such a lifestyle. In the film, the main character performed by Masthani 7 days and nights spends in Rome, it can be refused to refer to the biblical 7 days of creation or 7 mortal sins.
In the picture, you will meet the young novice singer Adriano Celentano, and the scene with the fountain de Trevi became one of the most recognizable in the history of the cinema.

"Eight and a half" (1963)
After the stunning success of the "Sweet Life", Fellini was afraid to take on another job - it seemed to him that he was expecting a masterpiece from him, and he would disappoint everyone. He already wanted to refuse, as he suddenly came the idea to make a film just about creative throwing and doubts. The main role was played by Masthani again. The film is called "eight and a half", because at that time the director had 7.5 films.

"Amarcord" (1973)
Memories of the director about their childhood during the reign of Mussolini, but this film is much commercial and debauchery than it seems at first glance. On the Italian dialect, the name of the film means "I remember", and this picture is actually very touching and nostalgic - about how the Italians continue to be, love, laugh and be people even in difficult times.

"Road" (1954)
An earlier work of the director and less colorful, but nevertheless taking an "Oscar", and one of the deepest and strong paintings. The film belongs to neorealism - a simple game of actors and shooting, similar to documentary. In the center of the picture the idea of cruelty and how it affects other people and creativity. Actress Juliet Mazina, who played a major role, as well as the only wife and muse of the director, says to understand this film, you need to pay attention to that the main characters there are all the same person (Fellini).

"Night of the Cabiria" (1957)
Fellini liked the game of his wife in the previous film, which wrote a new scenario specifically for her, and giving her the role of a prostitute. First it seems that this is a movie about the social bottom, poverty and robbers, but soon it becomes clear that it is only a scenery for the chic game of the main character - vulgar, but good and in Capininski charming prostitute, which remains a person with a beautiful soul, despite that it is constantly cheating. By the way, Pasolini, known for his shift in cruel erotic fantasy, helped with the scenario of this painting.
