The public of East Germany learned about the merger of Mall first as a fashionable photographer. But even more curious the long-term project to "live together", which she created for more than two decades since the 1970s. "I wanted to consider that he was hiding behind the official facade of optimism," Maler told about this work in 2014, when the pictures came out and in the form of photobooks. "What translines the body language, even if someone else's expression speaks about the opposite?"
Ute Mahler was born in 1949 in Thuringia. Through three weeks before her appearance, this territory became the German Democratic Republic (GDR), a socialist country, in which the formation of a photographer was held, and almost two decades of successful career took place.
After studying the photo at the Higher School of Graphics and Books Arts in Leipzig (1969-1974), she began receiving orders for the shooting from Sibylle magazine. Becoming a regular author of the popular publication, Malener washed the boundaries between the fashionable, portrait and documentary shooting. For example, creating a fashionable photoeria "dedication of youth" in 1986 for "Sibylle", she shot five girls during the day while they celebrated with their families.
One of the most commonly exposed works Mahler is the long-term project "Life together" (ZUSAMMENLELEBEN). It covers the 1970-1980s and is a documented daily life in the GDR. People in the pictures are so natural as if they are too busy with their own thoughts to notice the presence of the photographer. Even looking into the chamber is devoid of reorder.
"I was looking for the truth in the inner sphere of human life. Removed for myself, "the photographer says. - I did not look for anything sensational, I wanted to find something universal - from fragile relationships, family and friendship to the image of happiness, impermanence, despair, humility and intimacy ... It began with the fact that these were random characters, strangers, neighbors, friends. But through everyone, the same question was raised: how do people interact with each other? "
After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, together with her husband Werner Malener, she became among the co-founders of the legendary photo agency "Ostkreuz", and from 2000 to 2015 there was a professor of photographs in the University of Hamburg University of Applied Arts and Sciences. Curiosity, patience, sympathy, trust and respect are the main characteristics, to this day, the creativity of the coats of Malier, one of the most prominent German photographers.
