In Russia, they have long been talking about a new aircraft carrier, which would expand the possibilities of the Navy. One of the options recently suggested the Nevsky Design Design Bureau. The project received the name "Varan". It appears under the formal designation of the "universal sea ship", but de facto we are talking about a full-fledged aircraft carrier. On board you can place 24 multipurpose aircraft, six helicopters and up to 20 drone.
Displacement of "Varana" - 45 thousand tons, which is significantly less than that of American aircraft carriers like Nimitz (its displacement exceeds 100 thousand tons). The length of a promising ship is 250 meters, and the width is 65 meters. It is assumed that "Varan" will be able to develop speed up to 26 nodes.
In addition to the promising aircraft carrier, the design bureau presented a draft universal landing ship. Its displacement is approximately 30 thousand tons. UDC length - 220 meters, width - 42 meters. The ship can develop speed in the area of 24 knots, there are seven helicopter landing sites on its deck.
It is appropriate to recall that in July last year, Russia first laid universal landing ships in his history - called "Ivan Rogov" and "Mitrofan Moskalenko". In their dimensions, they are close to a promising UDC. According to outdoor sources, new ships will be able to carry up to 16 coilry machines each.
The prospects for the projects presented are not yet clear. It is worth saying that earlier Russian developers have already proposed their vision of a new major aviancecraft ship. In particular, in 2019, the Nevsky Design Bureau showed the aircraft carrier of the project 11430E "LAMINT". It should obtain a nuclear power plant, and water displacement will be up to 90 thousand tons. There is a springboard and electromagnetic catapults on the aircraft carrier. In total, it will be able to accommodate more fledent aircraft.
Recall, last year, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the start of the practical implementation of the new aircraft carrier of Porte Avion Nouvelle Generation (Pang), which should come to shift the Charles de Gaulle ship.
