The object is built as part of the project of the National Heliogeophysical Complex on the territory of the Geophysical Observatory of the Institute located in the Republic of Buryatia. The complex is designed to study various processes and phenomena in the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere, reflecting their change under the action of large-scale meteorological perturbations, geomagnetic storms, flights of spacecraft.

According to the head of the laboratory of physics of the lower and middle atmosphere of the Institute, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Roman Vasilyev, all modern equipment acquired for a set of optical instruments is mounted and successfully tested. Recall that, as part of the project, diffraction spectrometers of the visible and infrared optical range were acquired for detailed mapping of the spectral picture of the natural glow of the Night Atmosphere of the Earth, the interferometers of the Fabry - Pen, adapted for the aeronomic studies, ultra-wide-organized optical systems and fast photometers, registering the features of the time and spatial structure of variations Natural glow of the night sky. Part of the equipment is upgraded to perform specialized scientific and applies, in particular, equipped with additional astronomical mounts. In the Institute, special lifts are also designed and manufactured, which, with the onset of twilight, raise the measuring equipment under the dome of the technical building.

- Now there are preliminary observations of the night sky glow, the observer, duty engineer and a duty researcher work. The task of this phase of observation is to verify existing, as well as the development and testing of new techniques. Preliminary observations We plan to complete by summer and only after this stage will begin with patrol, regular observations of the night sky. Their goal is to analyze the data obtained at the moments of the occurrence of geomagnetic storms, earthquakes and other significant geophysical events of both global and occurring in the Baikal region, as well as identify the peculiarities of the daily seasonal variations of the upper atmosphere parameters. In addition, we will be able to monitor the inquiries of other organizations, conduct observation campaigns dedicated to such events, for example, as launches of spacecraft or maneuvering over the geophysical observatory.

Roman Vasiliev said that the old equipment of the complex will be sent to prevention, and then - to a new observation point:

- The institute was able to geographically disseminate identical equipment for a more detailed study of the processes in the upper atmosphere of the Earth and obtain more complete, new results on the structure and Dynamo of the upper atmosphere. For example, there is an idea to look at the spatial-temporal dynamics of vertical circulation cells in the mesosphere and the lower thermosphere, which can be implemented only using simultaneous operation of at least two-dimensional tools located at a distance of several hundred kilometers from each other. These knowledge is important for the successful development of the modern space industry: radio communications, geopositioning, observation of the surface of the Earth. In addition, the study of the upper atmosphere will be able to reasonably predict dangerous situations for spacecraft, which may arise as a result of the impact on the solar wind and the wave processes of the lower atmosphere, determine the degree of influence of anthropogenic factors and the measure of their negative impact. All this information will help develop recommendations on the safe operation of near-earth outer space.
