35 km / h and carrying capacity of 1200 kg: Crawler all-terrain-raging rag of SHM-8

Exactly 30 years ago AvtoVAZ released a tracked all-terrain rafbrush, called SHM-8 (deciphered as a "snow farmer"). It was intended for the operation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in extreme snow conditions and for servicing ski resorts. And it was the first in Russia such a car, which was competing a Swedish analogue.

The development of a unique project began in 1990, shortly before the collapse of the USSR. And already a year later on the facilities of the AvtoVAZ division "Enterprise of Special Transport AvtoVAZTrans", the first copy of the SCM-8 was collected (its second name - "Vega"). It is important to note that the car "from" and "before" consisted of VAZ components: a motor from VAZ-2106, transmission from the same "six" and "Niva".

The all-terrain route received a hinged frame and two independent caterpillar platforms. The rubber caterpillars themselves 50 centimeters width were borrowed from a domestic snowmobile. And the special lock in the rear of the machine allows you to block the caterpillars with each other.

Thanks to this design, the machine has simply fantastic passability even by the deepest subframes. It can develop speed up to 35 kilometers per hour. And the lifting capacity "VEGI" is 1,200 kilograms: 400 - on the front and 800 - to the back. This is about 14 adults.

Externally, the SCM-8 is almost indistinguishable from its "older brother" from Sweden - VOLVO BV206 amphibian departure. However, machines were used completely differently. Swedish all-terrain vehicle was intended for military use. The domestic originally thought for peaceful purposes: as a rescue machine of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for work in the mountains and in the role of the randa for servicing ski resorts.

"Vega" was released a small party, and almost all cars were transferred to the Ministry of Emergency Situations. By the way, some of them are still used in rescue operations. At the same time, several cars were sold in private hands. And one of them in early February was put up for sale in St. Petersburg. This sample has been preserved almost perfect, and therefore the current owner wants 890 thousand rubles for him. However, this price is more than adequate, given the cost of foreign analogues.
