The new Compact Electric SUV SMART will come down with a production line in China next year. The model will be the first SMART, born as a result of the cooperation of Daimler-Geely.
Smart confirmed that it plans to release its first SUV in 2022 on a new platform for electrocarbers developed by the Chinese Geely Giant. This is the first major news about the product SMART since Mercedes Maternal company and Volvo owner at the beginning of 2020 have created a new global joint venture for the Smart brand.
According to the blog on the LinkedIn website from the Vice-President on the Global Sales of Daniel Leskov, the new model will not make a firm refuse to compact the principles - it will be "instantly recognizable" as Smart.
The model will be designed by Mercedes-Benz specialists, and engineering works and development will take Geely. It will be built on a new Geely Platform called Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which will be based on all the next generation SMART and numerous models of eight other Geely car brands.
Geely describes the SEA platform as well-scalable and argues that it is suitable for vehicles, ranging from urban cars A-segment to large e-segment sedans. A platform variant for easy commercial vehicles with a full drive is also developed.
Key features are not disclosed, but in the largest and advanced form, the SEA platform will be developed electric vehicles capable of overcoming more than 700 km on one charge, with wireless updates and promised autonomous help technologies to the next generation driver.
