Victoria Abramchenko and Alexander Novak on February 19 held a meeting on topical issues of climate strategy and a low carbon economy, which was attended by representatives of various ministries, the official website of the Government of the Russian Federation reported.

The central place during the meeting was ranked coordination between state structures, business associations and companies of various sectors of the economy in the transition to a low carbon economy.

According to Victoria Abramchenko, the government provides measures aimed at the trajectory of sustainable low carbon development.

In particular, we are talking about increasing energy efficiency and stimulating the development of green sectors of the economy. In addition, the Government supported the draft law on restricting greenhouse gas emissions. For the first time, this bill has determined the course to achieve carbon neutrality.

On the basis of this document, a system of state accounting and implementation of projects for reducing greenhouse gas emissions will appear and to increase their absorption.

New regulation will enable business to carry out their own climate projects and attract green financing. Also, in 2021, the experiment will be launched on the territory of the Sakhalin region to create the necessary conditions for the introduction of technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, developing a methodology for the formation of a system for the verification of emission and greenhouse gases.

"Today, the question of adapting the territories and sectors of the economy to climate change is very acute. They have a cross-border character and, of course, should not be tools of trade wars and sanctions of one state in relation to another. At the same time, we must defend our national interests, so I propose in the framework of the study of all adaptation mechanisms to create a Russian project office with different competencies, which will be engaged in climate, the development of obligations, as well as risks associated with the export of our goods, "said Victoria Abramchenko.

"We need to have a clear understanding for each industry. As for the fuel and energy balance, our low carbon fuel and energy balance is our obvious, but not yet used advantage. For example, the share of environmentally friendly NPP and HPP takes up to 40% in the development of Russian electricity. Considering that exported goods consume only 20% of the entire electricity produced, we can at least ensure the confirmation of the purity of the product being implemented. Forest resource also remains our additional advantage, "said Alexander Novak.
